While the trend is encouraging it does not necessarily assure the Republicans success. Notice that in 2010 the Democrats enjoyed a 12 state advantage which did not stop them from losing 7 Senate and 63 House races. Over the same time the number of competitive states increased from 10 to 19. These data are generated by a
