Will Jeb Hensarling be the next Speaker?

If as rumored John Boehner does allow a House vote on the Senate package to end the shutdown without a majority support from Republicans that will end his Speakership. Most probably he could hold on until after the 2014 elections but restive Republicans could force him out immediately especially if we have seen his best fight. As to the question who will be the next Speaker, Congressman Jeb Hensarling of Texas would seem to be at the top of anybody's list. Unlike, Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan who supported it he vehemently opposed the TARP bailout. Unlike Boehner he enjoys the confidence of the largest faction in the party, the Tea Party.
Coming from Texas, the Financial Services chairman would have a big natural advantage in a speaker’s race. Texas currently has 24 votes in the GOP caucus, including some who have considerable support in the Tea Party. Being good enough for Louie Gohmert, Ted Poe, Kevin Brady, or Joe Barton would say a lot for his credibility.

Hensarling began his political career working for Senator Phil Gramm. He served as the Senator's state director and in 1990 he ran his re-election campaign, then moved to Washington to serve as executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, chaired by Gramm. He was elected to the House in 2002. In 2009 DMagazine, a Dallas publication called him the Gop's Most Powerful Nobody. He is 56 years old and has two children.
