Oh come on, Senator Menendez, $100?

Finally the story that Drudge has teased about a prominent senator caught up in a sex scandal has been broken by the Daily Caller. The prominent senator is Bob Menendez of New Jersey. The hooker alleges she was procured for Menendez by a third party and promised $500 but only received $100. The tryst is alleged to have occurred in the Dominican Republic. The Daily Caller has audio in which the hooker speaks through a translator.
One might quibble with Drudge as to whether or not Menendez is a prominent senator and one might question the Daily Caller's timing in releasing the story one week before the election. True or not, stories about hookers in foreign lands are not the sort of scandals that upset me but the $100 price tag might raise eyebrows in Newark. Elliot Spitzer is said to have paid several thousands of dollars per episode. Jeez, buying a $100 hooker, well, it just seems downright penurious for someone on a senator's salary. One hopes the senator practiced safe sex. Sometimes one does get what one pays for.

Like most Democrats, Menendez spews much verbiage on the evils of off-shoring and out sourcing and the deleterious result on American wages. I'm sure there are plenty of hookers in Atlantic City, especially after hurricane Sandy, who the need work but cannot afford to compete with cheap foreign wages. Who could blame them if they vote Menendez out of office?
