Did GM Go Bankrupt ?

I read my partner's post, Obama: GM DID declare bankruptcy...under YOU with much amusement. Obama evidently thinks the voters will forget that, yes indeed, General Motors did go bankrupt on his watch. Obama's absent mindedness is apparently contagious. A month or so ago Newsbusters had a post that featured MSNBC host and radio yak, Ed Schultz reporting both GM was going bankrupt and then savaging Mitt Romney for saying GM had gone bankrupt.
Ed tells his listeners GM is going under. audio
The big news at this hour, the president just spoke moments ago how General Motors, uh, is, they're filing I guess you could say, just like Chrysler filed. And the president is presenting this as a job savior program and a manufacturing saving maneuver for America. I'm all for it but here's the bottom line. They're going to throw a total of $30 billion into this whole thing to keep GM alive and you and I, the taxpayers, are going to own 60 percent of what's happening.... he's just finished talking as GM files for bankruptcy, he says that there's not going to be any micro-managing. I mean, he didn't use that word micro-managing, but he said when plants are going to get shut down or big decisions are going to be made, it's going to be made by those who are running the company.
When critics dug up an editorial, "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt" that Mitt Romney had written about that time Romney stated that Obama had essentially followed the advice he recommended in that editorial and did indeed let GM go bankrupt. The fact that Obama ladled billions of tax dollars on GM does not negate the fact that GM did go bankrupt. But that's not the way Ed remembered it. audio

... WHOA! WHOA! WHOA! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! What do you mean, finally when that was done? It was not done. It was not done. It was not done. They (pause) reprioritized within the framework of what they had.
While we are on the subject of GM, Mark Modica of National Legal and Policy Center appeared on the Gerri Willis show and expanded upon a post I had written earlier concerning the Pecan Street boondoggle.

  1. Ed Schultz is still on radio? Are we talking about that machine that has a tuner and a volume knob and picks audio signals out of the air? This is an audio gem if only for its rarity.

  2. Yeah he's still on. Remember he called Laura Ingraham a slut on radio not MSNBC.
