"This was wrong," the DCCC release reads. "The statements were untrue and unfair and we retract them. The DCCC extends its sincere apology to Mr. Adelson and his family for any injury we have caused."
On July 17 I wrote;
Any thoughts the DCCC had of intimidating Mitt Romney backer, Sheldon Adelson, have been just pipe dreams. When Adelson was accused of permitting prostitution at his Chinese casino he threatened to haul the DCCC into court. In an angry letter to the DCCC which you can read here Adelson through his lawyers turned the tables and demanded that the DCCC comply with his demands or go to court. Adelson insists that the DCCC:
1. Remove the offending text from it's web site.
2. Agree not to republish the comments.
3. Apologize publicly by producing "a prominent statement, in a form approved by Mr. Adelson, retracting and apologizing for your false claims."
That is the reason for the public apology. The DCCC was caught in a lie. Many statements made by the DCCC are untrue and unfair but Adelson has his own anti-bullying policy. He's one of those people Debbie Wasserman Schultz really shouldn't mess with.
