Ohio Issues Almost 300 Utica Drilling Permits

It's been sometime since I've written anything about drilling activity in Ohio's Utica Shale, a subject I consider to be the most important to Ohio's future in a hundred years. In summery the Ohio Division of Natural Resources' activity report shows that 297 horizontal wells have been permitted with 105 wells being drilled. Readers can view ODNR's data here. The top five counties are Carroll County with 99 wells permitted and 9 producing, Columbiana County, 47 permitted, 1 producing, Jefferson County 26 permitted, 0 producing. Harrison County, 24 permitted, 1 producing, Monroe County 16 permitted, 0 producing. Production of the producing well is proprietary information and must be released by the driller but it appears the Utica boom is proceeding nicely.
