Look Who's Taking Hostages

Look who's taking hostages now. With an undergraduate degree in recreation and eyes that seem to whisper "nobody home" Senator Patty Hearst Murray would seem to be an unlikely hostage taker. Actually she is an unusual choice for a senator but the same could be said of Al Franken. In any event the senior Senator from Boeing Washington has put the Republicans on notice that unless they agree to raise taxes on those vile people who make more than $250,000 per year she will, in her capacity as the fourth most powerful Senator in the Democratic leadership withhold support for all tax cut extensions thereby driving the economy into a double dip recession. Pretty clever, Patty!
“Unless Republicans end their commitment to protecting the rich above all else, our country is going to have to face the consequences of Republican intransigence,” Murray said in a speech at the Brookings Institution in D.C.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke warned Congress to avoid sending the country over a “fiscal cliff” that would result if steep tax hikes and deep spending cuts are allowed to move forward in January but never mind it's more important to tax the rich. Let's hope Murray sticks to guns at least until the election and see if she can scare the voters into electing more Democratic senators.
