Wisconsin NEA Membership Cut in Half!

I'm sure the implications of this finding will not be lost on the national level. When Wisconsin quit collecting union dues from its white collar public sector unions, membership fell by almost two thirds. The National Education Association, which represents teachers — fell to 28,745 in February from 62,818 in March 2011. It wasn't as though most members just up and quit the union but rather they were were removed from the membership roll for nonpayment of dues. In short, the only thing that kept them union so long was government compulsion-compulsory withholding of union dues.

Extrapolate these data to the national level and it becomes very clear how much the unions and their beneficiary, the Democratic Party have to lose. Suppose a Romney Administration would stop withholding dues from the slightly more than 1 million union federal workers. Suppose further that Congress would pass a law forbidding the withholding of any monies from employee paychecks except taxes and 401K contributions. While union would lament the loss of members it would be nothing compared to the lamentations of Democratic office seekers who would suddenly find themselves depending on real supporters for campaign cash. On Wisconsin!
