Rush, Sandra Is no Fluke

Amid all the terrible things Rush Limbaugh was saying about reproductive justice and impoverished law school students who have to shell out of pocket for their condoms I remembered that Sandra the Fluke was a former president of the Georgetown Law Center for Reproductive Justice. Perusing the web site of the parent organization ( lsrj.org) I was surprised to see that while they maybe fresh out of money for condoms they could still offer paid fellowships.

In 2010, LSRJ launched a groundbreaking, funded fellowship program for current 3Ls and recent law school graduates interested in working to advance reproductive justice. Following a tremendous response from students and advocates in the field, we successfully selected and placed six Reproductive Justice Fellows with six organizations in Washington D.C.The RJ Fellowship Program will enhance capacity at reproductive justice organizations working to influence law and policy and build a pipeline for future reproductive justice lawyers. Each RJ Fellows will be paid $50,000 plus benefits and will participate in a year-long program that includes mentoring, professional development, training, and networking opportunities.

It's not clear if their health insurance will provide free condoms which we all know by now cost more than a new 1965 Ford Mustang which sold for $2478 fob Detroit. Naturally they don't want just any unemployed lawyer on which to bestow their munificence. " Experience in gender equity, LGBTQ liberation, racial justice, disability rights, or reproductive justice preferred." Then there was this notice:

Other Internship & Fellowship Opportunities at Allied Organizations

NEW: NARAL ProChoice Massachusetts has 3 Internships available for Fall 2011: For descriptions of the Policy, Legal and Communications Internships, please click here. The interns will be supervised by expert staff; room for leadership development and creativity.

The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, which advocates at a national level for increases in research funding for the development of an early detection test, improved health care practices, and life-saving treatment protocols, is seeking a Legal and Policy Intern this Spring to assist in a state legislative project. Tasks include legal research, evaluating legislation and drafting model legislation. Interested applicants should submit their resume and cover letter to LSRJ alum Cara Tenenbaum, Esq. at ctenenbaum at overiancancer.org.

Of course balancing academic demands and what must be an almost grueling sex life leaves little time for student activism so the center has taken care of that too. It has developed EEE, Easy Events in an Envelope.

Want to put on an event but can't come up with any ideas?
Don't have time to put something together from scratch?
Not sure how to get people to care, let alone come to an event?

Don't worry—you're covered with LSRJ's Easy Events in an Envelope (EEE). Campus activism just doesn't get any easier than this! We've taken care of the heavy lifting and front-end planning, so all you have to do is follow the step-by-step instructions and voila! you're ready to host a successful, popular event. EEEs are self-contained toolkits complete with background information on the featured issues, a description of the suggested event, instructions for execution, lists of other resources for more information, suggested co-sponsors, handouts, and flyers for publicity. Student Coordinators can request them from the national office by sending an email to info@lsrj.org.

In other words, if you are dumb, lazy, or just not ambitious LSRJ wants you anyway. Even if you can't cut with the Occupy crowd LSRJ needs you.

In was not a Fluke that Sandra was chosen by the Democrats to testify. She is not, as the Democrats would have us believe, a typical college or law school student. She is first of all a hypocrite and secondly she was probably the only spokesperson they could come up with who was only covertly connected to NARAL and Planned Parenthood. She deserves all the grief she gets.
