Gherush92, a so called human right group apparently comprised of people who cannot understand the classics has called for the removal of Dante's Divine Comedy from schools and universities. Yes, tolerance has reached it reductio ad absurdum when groups that posture as virtuous sentries of civility in public discourse become jack booted book burner.
It is a world-renowned work of literature and one of the foundation stones of the Italian language, but Dante’s Divine Comedy has been condemned as racist, homophobic, anti-Islamist and anti-Semitic.
The classic work should be removed from school curricula, according to Gherush 92, a human rights organization which acts as a consultant to UN bodies on racism and discrimination.
Dante’s epic is “offensive and discriminatory” and has no place in a modern classroom, said Valentina Sereni, the group’s president
Am I the only one who remembers Meredith Willson's The Music Man? A collection of would be censors are complaining to Professor Harold Hill that Marian the librarian advocates "dirty books". Chaucer! Rabelais!! and Balzac!!! Now we can add Dante. Sad.
