A Washington Post- ABC poll shows that 65 % of Americans disapprove of Obama's handling of high gas prices. While denying that the White House focuses on polls, the administration is scrambling to give the appearance of action. Oil production on federal lands dropped in 2011 after years of gains. Offshore production declined to 523 million barrels in 2011 compared to 603 million barrels in 2010. Onshore federal land production dropped to 98 million in 2011 from 112 million in 2010. If it were not for the Bakken Shale which is producing for than 500,000 barrels per day, on private lands the country would be in much worse shape. The decline in drilling under federal jurisdiction will be felt for years to come. As the drill nowhere crowd tells us it will take years to bring more oil on line so the curtailment drilling now will do damage well into the future.
The Obama administration is going to take well earned criticism on energy, having just dismissed out of hand the construction of the Keystone pipeline. The proposed algae solution Obama trotted out in Florida recently is farcical. What the public is finally beginning to see is Obama doesn't give a damn about their personal lives. Update: According to Jim Geraghty at NRO only 27 percent of those in that poll were Republicans.
And all the drilling that's being done now that the Obama administration brags about was approved under the BUSH administration.
ReplyDeleteOne can only imagine what they'll do if they get another term.
Look at this chart at M.J.Perry's blog. When they talk about it taking 5 years to make a difference in supply. Once it is started see how fast it can ramp up. They produce more oil there than California.
