House Ethics Committee Continues Alcee Hastings Probe

Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) was once a federal judge, appointed by Jimmy Carter. He had a short judicial career. In 1981, Hastings was charged with accepting a $150,000 bribe in exchange for a lenient sentence and a return of seized assets for 21 counts of racketeering by Frank and Thomas Romano, and of perjury in his testimony about the case. A Democratic controlled House voted 413-3 to impeach and the Senate voted 69-26 to convict. Now Hastings is in trouble again, the plaintiff in a case filed in federal court alleges she was the target of “unwelcome sexual advances, crude sexual comments and unwelcome touching by Mr. Hastings,” Way to go Alcee you do your party proud! The House Ethics Committee on Wednesday moved to continue its preliminary probe saying it needs more time before deciding on whether or not to launch a formal investigation.
