That quote was from Financial Times Deutschland. While news that Canada would not be agreeing to any more growth stifling carbon caps barely made the news in the US the response in Europe has been hysterical. Not only the usual green activists but even the sedate financial community is taken aback by Canada's recent exit from the Kyoto accords. Russia and Japan now seem poised to follow Canada back to reality. Should they exit, the obligation of saving the planet will fall solely on Europe and Australia as they have exempted almost all the large carbon emitters, notably China and Brazil from compliance. Unless Germany can convince its population to live in the dark without heat it looks like this maybe the end of the world as we know it. So what about the Maldives? The breakdown of the climate change agreement could be catastrophic! No, not because they will sink and let the rest of us live in peace but because rational thinking could end their tourism industry. Since the whiny, self promoting, string of archipelagos discovered climate change it has become a tourist mecca. Currently it has eleven airports under construction and has over 100 hotels. They are the poster child of the global warming movement because they epitomize the fruition of the Kyoto protocols namely to transfer wealth from the poor in the west to the rich in the developing world."The country should be shunned because of its ignorant stance. Europe and all the other countries that want serious climate-protection measures must put Canada on the spot. … If Canada manages to get away with it without large protests, then all the international climate-protection efforts will be threatened."
