When Senator Allan Simpson was co-chairing the president's debt commission he frequently made demeaning remarks about Grover Norquist. Now the media and the monkey see monkey do Democrats are attempting to make him the villain who sunk the Super Committee. It is the height of idiocy to blame someone who is not a member of Congress or of the administration, who holds not public office and never has for the conduct of the 12 presumably intelligent adults who made up the Super Committee. The fact that Norquist has a compelling argument that has wide public support does not excuse the fact that Barack Obama has walked away from the recommendations of his own commission and hidden out in Indonesia. The left is good at this tactic. If an idea they don't like gains popular support they, rather than counter the idea, pick out one of its proponents to demonize. Usually Rush Limbaugh or Sarah Palin are is the target but maybe feeling that they've overworked them, the left has selected a new villain. I don't feel sorry for Norquist. He probably can't keep a straight face when he hears the rants. Hear Joe Scarborough :
“Blaming Grover Norquist for this collapse is the lamest Democratic fiction since the Tonkin Gulf incident".
