Great Moments In Moon Battery

The latest example of moon battery come from Lilly Pennsylvania. A dead Indiana bat has been found beneath a windmill so they will no longer run at night. The windmills are operated by Duke Energy and are only possible to because of DOE loan subsidies. The subsidies available for wind projects allow Duke to earn returns on equity of 17 to 22 percent, better than the much hated Wall Street banks do on most of their investments. Now the local utility rate payers who have been forced into this boondoggle only get the precious green electricity during daylight hours. With the new operating rules everybody wins except for the utility customer and the taxpayers.
