This is a good thing. Though the Powerline guys have favored Pawlenty, he never caught on, partly because of his mealy mouthed personality. Lately his campaign has descended into sniping against Bachmann, which seemed strange considering Romney has been considered the front runner.
Romney, OTOH, came in 7th in the straw poll, which is about where he belongs. The only people who really like Romney, who seems like a very nice man, are the RINOs.
Santorum, another nice guy, isn't going anywhere, just as Mitch Daniels, so popular in Indiana, wasn't going anywhere.
So the field is changing. How absurd for the talking heads to say it's too late for anyone else to get into the race and how we're down to the wire now (heard on Fox News today).
There's a long way between now and November 2012.
It's somewhat amusing watching the media train their guns on the next up Republican candidate: Bachmann is obviously in the sights now, but Obama has already focused his campaign on portraying Romney as "weird."
Word is that the Perry candidacy has thrown them off. They have to look for the negatives, of which there are a few (Gardasil, Confederate flag, illegal immigration, states rights).
So are we still a weak field, as progressives and even Republicans like to portray?
Don't think so.
Course I'd vote for giraffe at this point.
