Food Police Gone Wild

Proposed guidelines for food marketing would force 88 of the top 100 foods off the market. Even bottled water, discovered to have no nutritional value, would be banned under the new guideline. The list includes most dairy products, canned vegetables, salad dressings, yogurt, whole wheat bread and oatmeal. The Federal Trade Commission has pushed back against criticism, noting that the guidelines are voluntary.

"The government is inconsistent. The FDA has different definitions than the new guidelines. Foods allowed under USDA's WIC [Women, Infants, and Children] program, such as 2 percent milk and peanut butter, don't meet the new guidelines.", said Beth Johnson a former USDA official and a dietician. Maybe a government shutdown wouldn't have been such a bad thing.

  1. (swear word. invective. profanity. curse. imprecation.) Geez. I keep wondering how much worse it can get.
