In his speech this morning, *The Prince* spoke in the same tone of voice with the same message as he has in recent days. He demanded that Repubs and tea partiers give up their hopes of bringing spending under control because he wants, now, suddenly to fix roads and bridges.
ACORN has had its stimulus from Obama, refuses to pay its taxes, and is still being funded by this administration. But, you know, there's never enough money, regardless what *The Prince* says, who also once claimed that once in office, ACORN would shape his administration.
In fact, ACORN's manifesto says this. From Sweetness and Light:
Our freedom is the force of democracy, not the farce of federal fat and personal profit. In our freedom, only the people shall rule. Corporations shall have their role; producing jobs, providing products, paying taxes. No more, no less. They shall obey our wishes, respond to our needs, serve our communities. Our country shall be the citizens’ wealth and our wealth shall build our country.
Government shall have its role: public servant to our good, fast follower to our sure steps. No more, no less. Our government shall shout with the public voice and no longer to a private whisper. In our government, the common concerns shall be the collective cause. From this passage, you can see the "shape" of this administration, as revealed in today's press conference.
As usual, Obama blamed Bush for everything that has ever gone wrong in his administration, scolded anyone who disagreed with his method, and, though giving no specifics, said his offers of sacrifice and financial plans exceeded anything the Repubs had offered, in spite of Ryan's and Cantor's works and documents on record:
Interesting *Princely* quotes from the WSJ transcript:
- Congress has run up the credit card.
- [We need to] get our fiscal house in order.
- ...I am willing to take down domestic spending to the lowest percentage of our overall economy since Dwight Eisenhower. It also requires cuts in defense spending, and I've said that in addition to the $400 billion that we've already cut from defense spending, we're willing to look for hundreds of billions more.
- The last point I’ll make and then I’ll take questions — we are obviously running out of time.
- So I have not seen a credible plan — having gone through the numbers — that would allow you to get to $2.4 trillion without really hurting ordinary folks.
- I think I already addressed this question earlier. We don’t need a constitutional amendment to do our jobs.
- our problem is we cut taxes without paying for them over the last decade; we ended up instituting new programs like a prescription drug program for seniors that was not paid for; we fought two wars, we didn’t pay for them; we had a bad recession that required a Recovery Act and stimulus spending and helping states — and all that accumulated and there’s interest on top of that.
- I generally don’t watch what is said about me on cable. I generally don’t read what’s said about me, even in The Hill. And so part of this job is having a thick skin and understanding that a lot of this stuff is not personal.
Just like TSA screening, this is all theater, theater Obama planned to unleash on the public after his explosion and petulant behavior yesterday.
On a side note, the conflict between Eric Cantor and Obama has escalated. Never a fan, Obama seems particularly agitated when Cantor argues with him, reminiscent of Obama's recent treatment of Bibi Netnyahu.
Eric Cantor is, of course, a Jew who wholeheartedly supports Israel.
Interesting.
