Governor Kasich is supportive of this bill put forth by the Republicans in the Ohio Senate. The Ohio House has also gone Republican.
The entire scope of the bill needs to be read to be believed. Here's a smidgeon, but you can find a complete and astounding list of changes at the Columbus Dispatch:
Collective bargaining would be wiped out for all state workers, including those at institutions of higher education. Local police officers and fire fighters who cannot strike would see weakened binding arbitration. Local workers would no longer bargain for health insurance, automatic pay increases would be stripped from state law, and teachers would not get a say in which buildings they teach in.Dayton Daily News has a small blog article about it here.
Cleveland Plain Dealer has some details here.
Global Economic Analysis has an article here. Here's a snippet:
Governor John Kasich has supported this move so unless Democrats can find a procedural way to block passage, Ohio is going to see some much needed changes.
More details emerged today, including a protest by nurses, prison guards, firefighters, and other beneficiaries of the unjust existing collective bargaining setup. The list goes on and on of items stricken by this bill, including elimination of seniority only for dismissal in the event of reductions in force, payment of 20% of health insurance policies by state workers. It's pretty ambitious.
