Building the defense for Loughner

Let's be honest and admit it. What the American left has done the past week is building a defensive case for murderer Jared Loughner.
Here are some of the points of sympathy and defense they have proposed, in fact, drummed into the prospective jury's consciousness.

  • He was influenced by tea partiers/Rush/Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin
  • He spent time cruising Sarah Palin's website a year ago
  • He listened to an anarchist band.
  • He was motivated by a lack civility.
  • He was motivated by more than a lack of civility.
  • His father drinks; ergo Loughner's a murderer.
  • His family's dysfunctional; ergo Loughner was under stress and became a murderer.
  • The health care system sucks.
  • We were all expecting something like this to happen because people disagree with the nation's First Black President.

These comments, along with law enforcement and The One saying that Judge Roll was just visiting a friend as opposed to being on official business which would make his murder a federal offense, are serving to build a case for the defense and undermine the prosecution.
  Why?
Why are "we" working on building a case of defense for a murderer, pointing fingers at completely unrelated people and ideas to deflect responsibility away from the shooter. If anyone is to blame, it's the family who didn't seek him for an obviously ill young man. (That said, how horrible to be his parents, particularly if they didn't really absorb what was happening over time.)
Similarly, the kind of pathology we are seeing now is reflected in Robert F Kennedy, jr's comments about the "right wing."
Most of you think Lee Harvey Oswald killed JFK because he was crazy and his sympathies lay with the Soviet Union, where he had defected earlier.
However RFK Jr claims at HuffPo it was something else that motivated Oswald:
Jack's death forced a national bout of self-examination. In 1964, Americans repudiated the forces of right-wing hatred and violence with an historic landslide in the presidential election between LBJ and Goldwater. For a while, the advocates of right-wing extremism receded from the public forum. Now they have returned with a vengeance -- to the broadcast media and to prominent positions in the political landscape
  As Weasel says:
Just forget all that stuff about Lee Harvey Oswald being a self-proclaimed Marxist who defected to the USSR, offered his services to the Castro regime, had originally planned to kill a conservative general who was an outspoken critic of Cuba etc.
There's little logic in what's going on; the murderer is the guilty party. Once again, a certain group of individuals is trying to opportunistically take advantage of a horrible situation and in the process defend the indefensible actions of a murderer.
And more here.
