But conservatives, religious or not, have been a quiet, hard-working group of people over the years who have supported conservative causes, including pro-life philosophies, consequences for bad behavior and defense of the country through military action when necessary.
Traditionally liberals have prided themselves that they are the permissive, indulgent, kind and generous end of the political parties. They are the ones who want freedom, and running in meadows with their hair flowing gently in the breeze of the summer afternoon sun. They are the hippies, the free lovers, the souls yearning to be free and easy, sometimes on the road, sometimes wandering thoughtfully in the garden, pondering the meaning of life.
Not so.
They are quite opposite of this halcyon pastoral images of liberal mentality.
It is quite remarkable that the people who are most intent on controlling the lives of others are liberals. That haven't had such chances in recent memory as they have had with Barack Obama's presidency and the overwhelming democrat majorities in both Houses.
In fact, their shot at running and controlling the nation has been quite revealing: they have reached into the very depths of our personal lives and tried to control every aspect, grasping and squeezing the lifeblood out of the American economy, business and education.
They have lied; they have cheated; they have stolen.
They have smeared their opponents with every manner of created lie and manufactured assault they could imagine.
They have flouted the rule of law.
They have committed illegal acts to keep themselves in power.
They have proven that, once given power, they will not control themselves or their behavior.
They have lost the confidence of the people.
The quality of the cloth of which they are made has proven to be faulty, cheap and worn.
Over at the Weekly Standard:
Liberal overreach is an old problem for Democrats when they take control of both the White House and Capitol Hill, as they did in 2008. Their no-holds-barred pursuit of a liberal agenda tends to turn off the electorate, a majority of whom fit into the center-right category. A midterm backlash occurred in 1966 and 1994, and to a lesser extent in 1978.Backlash? Backlash?
Oh, it's more than that.
These people have discredited themselves for years to come.
They have established that they are not to be trusted. Even the most moderate among them cannot get reelected because no one can trust them to do the right thing. They have proved their disloyalty to the United States of America.
Barack Obama has indeed ruined his party. It will be many years before they will be trusted again to do anything.
I would add this: mene mene tekel upharsin
