A few questions for the most brilliant man in the country: why are so many of his records sealed, including his academic records? In fact, curious people have been indicted for trying to access this information, which was criminal to try to attain (remember Joe the Plumber?) but one has to ask why these records would be kept under wraps for the most brilliant man in the country. What's so special about them? Or not special?
So does he know what he's doing or not?
This is a disturbing question, as we watch him today golf for the 53rd time in his presidency.
Does he know what he's doing?
From the evidence of the economy, it certainly does not appear that he does.
His policies continue to put the country into a downward spiral, even up to the new policies that are going to make replacing appliances in the house much, much more expensive, AT THE EXPENSE of effectiveness. (Ever wonder why those bed bugs won't go away? Could it have something to do with banned insecticides and washers that won't get hot enough?)
Yet Obama and his people march on, determined that they know what they are doing, as evidenced by Valerie Jarrett's comforting statement to The One that they must keep on going and "know it will get better."
By "it," does she mean 1) the economy? 2) the press? 3) his reviews around the country? 4) the outlook for a second term?
Certainly he doesn't seem to be too upset by the economic conditions of the people who live in this country that he can't go golfing again.
Looking at the evidence available to us (the unsealed records of current events), it surely is easy to conclude that IT means #4--the outlook for a second term.
In fact, over at American Thinker there's speculation that he's already moved on to figuring out how he can change the perception of his message to appeal to the voters who so despise him now.
But wait -- Baker informs us that Mr. Obama has "learned" from his years in office, learned "what he called 'tactical lessons.' He let himself look too much like 'the same old tax-and-spend liberal Democrat.'" Has this man ever done anything wrong? Deficits four times higher than the highest under the terror of G.W. Bush, deficits that he intends to continue for every one of his hoped-for eight years, and, mirabile dictu, people got the impression that he was "the same old tax-and-spend liberal Democrat"? How could his subjects be so -- so...unfair? It's a perception problem: he just looks like one. Everyone has blinders, but our president lives in a cocoon. Not the message, of course, but the perception of the message.
Because that's what a dishonest politician does.
While this "triangulation" or movement toward the middle is pretty standard midterm presidency, just as it's pretty usual for the president's party to lose seats, what's happening this year is phenomenal.
But Obama isn't really interested in working with Republicans; instead he commands that they will be moving left to work with him. The anointed one.
He continues to use the same tired old metaphor of the Republicans driving the "car" of the country into the ditch, even though HIS PARTY has been in charge since 2007.
Oblivious. Clueless. Insular.
How is this possible, that the country could be in such turmoil and yet the "ruling class" should be so absolutely out of touch with what the people of the country want? How could they mock, ridicule, scorn, diminish and continue to disparage the citizens of this country and NOT EVEN PRETEND TO BE INTERESTED IN WHAT WE WANT?
Berkowitz at the WSJ begins to discuss the topic here:
Highly educated people say the darndest things, these days particularly about the tea party movement. Vast numbers of other highly educated people read and hear these dubious pronouncements, smile knowingly, and nod their heads in agreement. University educations and advanced degrees notwithstanding, they lack a basic understanding of the contours of American constitutional government. While it's true that accurate history has not been taught in our schools and thus the academics' ignorance of it comes as no surprise, what could account for the uprising nationally of so many people who had similar educations? Who felt a simultaneous urge to do something, something to stop the scandal in Washington. Who suddenly discovered a passionate love of country and limited government that had lain dormant or didn't exist prior to these turbulent times?
And now, the elites cannot figure out what's sweeping the country, turning the blue to red and catapaulting even the most secure democrat into an unanticipated race for their money? They cannot SEE what is happening?
What's been quite remarkable is that the ruling class hasn't been trying to hide it anymore, moreso than any time in our recent history. Rangel doesn't even bother filing records for millions of dollars worth of government largesse to one of his organizations. Pelosi won't bother to debate her opponent, in between flying around the country at our expense. We could go on, but you know it all already.
What's different in this era is not only the boldness with which the ruling class defies the wishes of the "small people" but the arrogance and absolute ignorance which they display in so doing.
Can't they see the whole thing is falling apart?
Can't they see we aren't gonna take it anymore?
Are they so accustomed to wielding the heavy gavel that they feel no need to ask themselves, "Could we possibly be doing something wrong?" "Is it possible we are pushing our own party out of power for years to come, as no one trusts us anymore?"
Is there no such thing as introspection with these people?
A while back, Beck had tape of Special Ed Schultz ranting about his visit to the White House (yes, he must be esteemed enough to be invited) and what he saw there. Beck played this on his show, a quite revealing moment for old Ed:
SCHULTZ: The White House, the West Wing, and there are pictures all over, I mean, everywhere of President Obama, of his life in the first year as president of the United States. Now, I don't know if that's the way it is with every president. ...
SCHULTZ: But it was almost a shrine. I mean, well, here's a picture of Obama, the president with his kids over here, there he is getting on Air Force one, here is with some military people, here he is on the line, working the line at one of his campaign stops. I mean, just, it was just one picture after another! And so I got the message right away that there's nothing but Obama fans in the White House, which I think is a good thing. When even the most sycophantic loon can spot the numerous self portraits on the wall as somewhat disconcerting, what does this say about those who actually LIVE in the White House who cannot see it?
Inadvertently revealing, Ed's comment that only Obama fans are in the White House are a significant part of the problem.
Someone needs to tell this guy no once in a while. And someone needs to present the other point of view, even though, as he said, "I won."
This self-absorption, this narcissism, this insularity is shared by many leftists and is what destroys their ability to govern effectively.
It's why Maureen Dowd can pen some of the nastiest bitterest columns known to civilization, and then accuse conservative women of being "mean" for not thinking the way she does. What a joke.
It's why men can accuse a woman of having an affair with both of them with no proof, even going to the point of signing affidavits, to try to destroy the woman's career. Is this because they feel righteously indignant that this woman is below caliber because she is morally flawed? They, after all, supposedly participated in said affairs.
No, it's because it's a tactical move. They think they can use the ideals and morals of conservatives against us, so that conservatives will turn against those who are "flawed." The alleged affairs have more to do with using morality against the populace, rather than for it.
Just as radical Islamic jihadists use our freedom and liberty against us. If, after all, 9/11 survivors are terribly upset by the proposed NYC mosque, why is there any argument after that? Why is there any more conversation about rights and Constitution and freedom?
In the face of such naked narcissism, even the faithful are deserting.
It's curious, really, that such "brilliant" people cannot see themselves what they are doing. It's curious and revealing that they cannot accept that it is all disintegrating, in front of their eyes.
And so we wait, ready to fill the vacuum the elite have created in the name of governance, with the knowledge that the people we do send to Washington have the memories of the raucous townhalls, the marches, the vast network we have created imprinted in their political DNA.
We do not forget.
And as for us, those of us out here donating our tens of dollars, writing our letters and blogs and campaigning for people we've never met in distant states?
We don't hang many pictures of ourselves up around the house.
We, the anti-elite, the rubes, the rednecks, the unwashed masses, have the sense to know that that ain't healthy.
It just ain't healthy.
