"LONDON - The British government proposes to stop incapacity benefits, worth billions of pounds annually, to people who claim they cannot work due to causes like obesity, depression and mood disorders.
According to figures from the Office of National Statistics and the National Health Services, nearly 2.5 millionpeople are currently on incapacity benefits. This costs the exchequer approximately 12.5 billion pounds (about $18 billion) a year.So let's take a look at someone who's had his "incapacity benefits" cut and why. This British plumber broke his arm almost a year earlier.
Torron Eeles claims surgeons cancelled on him four times, leaving him unable to work and living in fear of losing his home.
His incapacity benefit was cancelled 'because I can turn on a tap and I can lift my arm', he said.'It's been so long, the bones have knitted back together. Sleeping is really uncomfortable because, whenever I roll over, my arm gets in the way,' added the 50-year-old.Of course, the health professionals disapproved of his smoking, so that was another reason to cancel the surgery. Sorta like having your BMI be a bit too high? The BMI that all citizens must have measured and recorded by 2014, according to the new health care law?
That could never happen here, refusing treatment because you smoke or you're fat, you think:
Huh. Did you know millions of dollars are being poured into bicycle paths and the like for this country, even though we have significant debt issues? Sounds like a great idea, but did you know Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood considers walking and bicycling equal to autos? Why would they be true unless they expect you to start walking and bicycling everywhere, instead of driving?
And did you know they tried to outlaw salt in New York? Ban transfats? How about this:
Meddling in your home: Billions of dollars fund new programs for “home visitation” and other grant-created agencies designed to manage your and your children’s weight, eating habits, exercise routine, and other lifestyle habits — all in the name of controlling healthcare costs to the federal government. So what do you think? Do you trust the government to run national health care? Do you trust Barack Obama to not raise your taxes to pay for the new health care law, which already is causing private insurance companies to cut services, go out of business and reform their companies' benefits?
Let's go back to our plumber with the broken arm. Let's take a look at that break that wasn't worth incapacity benefits.
That's the face of government health care.
Or should we say, the arm of government health care.
