The 18 screen cinema in Maumee, recently sold by National Amusements to Rave, are to be closed. The Fallen Timbers theaters are poorly attended, but if you've tried to get over to Fallen Timbers lately you know it's a trick to figure out how, considering the nightmare of closed exits and roadwork being done. The ridiculous "stimulus funded" projects being done around the city have tied up traffic everywhere. In addition, it's almost impossible to use Salisbury Road and access businesses/restaurants all along Salisbury because of construction which is estimated to take at least 2 years. The reason for construction? The overpass bridge over there has to be raised by 6 inches? Make sense?
The area where Value City used to be is a rathole now; many businesses in South Toledo are closed and gulls circle the huge empty space where Southwyck Shopping Center used to be. What building IS taking place? Always good managers of their money, Toledo Public Schools are tearing down perfectly good buildings like Bowsher and building a new one on the same site (to replace Byrnedale, which is HOW old?), while building a new Bowsher a couple miles down the road. And then they're perplexed when taxpayers don't want to pass another school levy.
