On WJR this morning, Frank Beckman discussed the withdrawal of a prominent Democrat candidate, Bowman, from the gubernatorial race for unknown reasons. A flip over to Fox News revealed that Evan Bayh, moderate Democrat Senator from Indiana, has decided NOT to run again. This is happening all across the United States; Democrats are deciding not to run again or at all.
Of course, what is happening in Michigan may be a harbinger for what is to come for Republicans, who can't seem to focus their energies. Numerous nasty ads are being run against each other already, which is creating a poisonous environment for an election.
And out in Nevada, the tea party has been able to get enough signatures to run as a third party so they are putting up a third party candidate against Harry Reid...sure to split the vote.
And we shall see.
UPDATE: Rumors abound that Bayh will be seeking the presidency against Obama. Abandoning his seat at this late date (candidates must file by Friday) puts the party at a distinct disadvantage. However, there isn't much detail out there about the field of Republican candidates, since Pence withdrew.
UPDATE UPDATE: Riehl World View says it's a best case scenario for the Dems in Indiana to replace Bayh since they will now get to choose their best candidate. Meh. I guess you just have to know the way these things work. Go here for Riehl.
