The new economy in D.C.
Hill Buzz have some EXCELLENT suggestions regarding expense accounts in D. C. Did you ever think about the fact that Washington politicians seem to have no restrictions on anything they buy, use, rent or charge to the government as a necessary expense? Like Nancy Pelosi, flying from one end of the country to the other, treating her family and friends to not only (almost free) transportation and wait services of government employees, but also enormous amounts of alcohol and food, all at the taxpayer expense? How about some regulations on that, just as the state of Ohio restricts purchases and chargebacks regarding vehicle usage, meal allowances, etc? Read at Hill Buzz:
In our opinion, a Senator cannot be a true advocate of the people of a state if he doesn’t live amongst them.
It’s long been our opinion that the United States Congress should have a dorm near the Capitol building. It can have 535 small, Marriott-grade rooms. Every Senator and Congress person would get free room and board while serving their elected term. No other food or lodging expenses would be provided for them while they were in DC. They could not charge any restaurant meals to their expense accounts and could not stay in any fancy hotels or claim any rents or mortgages as living expenses.
