See, this is part of the problem. This column is entitled "The Power Elite" by David Brooks in the NYT. He enjoys taking potshots at conservative thinking, while at the same time styling himself as a sort of "progressive" conservative, if that makes any sense. Perhaps he might term himself an "open-minded" conservative, unlike the rest of us, who are close-minded, uninformed and ignorant. So he writes this column without realizing that it betrays the problem with what is going on in the United States today. He appears to reference himself as an "elite," along with the rest of his compatriots, without any sense of irony at all. He attempts to explain why the unwashed masses are so restless with today's government, all the while never realizing that his very tone is part of what we despise. We are NOT UNDERLINGS, Mr. Brooks. We are NOT UNINFORMED, Mr. Brooks. And you are NOT a RULING CLASS, unlike what you all believe.
There are too many ways to get information these days and we are no longer going to tolerate being treated like naughty subjects by the ruling class, who jet around the world at our expense, even as they squeeze us for many shekels to support their annual $50,000 tab for alcohol on their trips home. We have each other from which to gain information, we have access to public airways ourselves, and we can identify that the stink is emanating from the RULING CLASS, not us!
Too much transparency? I don't think so.
