CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. -- As promised, School Supt. Frances Gallo is mailing letters Thursday to all of Central Falls High School's 74 teachers, telling them that she is "recommending that your teaching contract be terminated at the close of the 2009-2010 school year.

Action taken to terminate ALL teachers at Central High School in R.I.
We have been following this news story for a few days now. Teachers have been asked to make a few concessions regarding helping their students achieve success. In a high school that has a 48% high school graduation rate, teachers were not willing to give an extra 25 minutes a day in instruction or to be paid $30 an hour to tutor after school. This is in a town where the median income is $22,000 a year, while teachers make between $70,000 to $77,000. Today's developments include the first steps to dismissing all of them:
