Retirees dumped off drug coverage

The news is bad, bad, bad these days. 

The Democrats in Congress argued that they would gain $5.4 billion in revenue by eliminating the tax break enacted in the 2003 Medicare Part D program as an incentive for businesses to keep their retirees out of the Medicare system.  Instead, they have given businesses a reason to dump their retirees out of the private networks and into the Part D system now.  Not only will the expected tax revenues never appear, but now we will have to spend a lot more money covering those prescriptions out of public funds.  The seniors in these programs will suffer most of all, as the Part D coverage is vastly inferior to the private plans offered by businesses in the private sector.

REPEAL, REPLACE, REFORM!!!

This is the best summary yet of WHY we should go forward with REPEALING this monstrosity. Only now are most people waking up to what's been done to our health care system. Of course, we haven't been allowed to SEE what's inside the bill yet, so even more howling will be on the way. Naturally the government run press is discouraging the above meme for Republicans in the fall; that must mean it's the way to go. Governor Jindal addresses it here:

Well, let's see. We just spent 13 months arguing against the Democrats' top-down approach to health care, contending that it must be stopped for the good of our country, the health of our citizens, and the future of our nation's economy. So, should we try to repeal it? Only in Washington is this a hard question.

More on the* sigh* violence

Wizbang has a pretty impressive roundup of the accusations (including the ridiculous charge that one Dem's office had a rock thrown the window....30 stories up!) and the statistics on WHO exactly actually commits the acts of violence. Now that there is video evidence that no racial epithets were hurled and no one spat on Cleaver intentionally, one must ask why, in the protected little birdnest that is the politician's life, did no camera catch such an act being committed? Indeed Jesse Jackson's son followed his father out with a video camcorder while his father taunted the protestors. Gee, what was the plan there? Goading the protestors and then claiming you were racially attacked? Meh. That didn't work, did it, since all we saw was the PROTESTORS' videotaping Jackson videotaping the protestors! (Taunt: You've got it on tape, Jesse, let's see the tape! Let's see how mean they were to you. End taunt) On to Wizbang and the story of the left winger who is claiming violence is the province of the right. Ha. 

Here is the only answer that makes sense to me (I put it in bold because this is important): Democrats have seen the pure, raw force of American freedom of expression. They have seen it rise up against them and they are scared spitless. They realize how unpopular they have become and they have to fight back to survive. It is hard to fight back against elderly people with walkers at town hall meetings, and mothers holding infants at tea party rallies, and peaceful, clean cut, tax paying American citizens. So they have to vilify them -- just like they have vilified Republicans all these years. It is just harder to do now that people have cell phone cameras and Twitter and blogs and YouTube and talk radio and Fox News, etc.

Fanning the flames of violence and hatred

Hard to believe my grandma could be a terrorist, full of hate and violence, but that is what Democrats are accusing tea partiers of. It's about time the Republicans had the nerve to stand up and call this for what it is: it's a smoke screen to gain sympathy for themselves, to take the focus off the monster they've created, and to get people to back off from criticizing them for fear of being accused of being harassers. While calling for more civility in politics, President Obama today likened Washington to the "Tower of Babel" – a place where sometimes the sound of God’s voice is lost.

"There is a sense that something is different now, that something's broken, that those of us in Washington are not serving the people as well as we should. At times it seems like we're unable to listen to one another, to have at once a serious and civil debate."

Speaking at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. the president said this “erosion of civility” sows division and distrust.

"It poisons the well of public opinion.  It leaves each side little room to negotiate with the other. It makes politics an all-or-nothing sport where one side is either always right or always wrong, when, in reality, neither side has a monopoly on truth."

It's Bush's fault

They're still after him. I don't even want to report on this. It appears to be sped up and, of course, repeated again and again. It's more of the despicable "reporting" the left does. Bush reaches out, after touching someone's hand, and then pats/pets Clinton's shoulder. This has been sped up to make it look like he didn't want to touch the Haitian's hand and wiped it on his shoulder. The left, which obviously doesn't have much to talk about these days, is making a big deal of it.

It seems to be the only subject today. Apparently nobody remembers the books, plays, movies about killing Bush..or the posters with his decapitated head, or the pictures of him as Hitler, or the Republican headquarters that was smashed. Naw. Nobody remembers that.

Goading, taunting, mocking....

     It's so utterly boring. Say you're the head guy. Your people talk a bunch of people into running for office, claiming to be conservative enough to not spend money crazily. Once they get into office, they decide to change the rules, to adapt to whatever they need to actually MAKE LAW. You don't let the Constitution of the United States stop you from your purposes because you see it as a "living document," meaning you can change it at your will for whatever need you think you have discerned.
     You cheat, admittedly, to pass your new rules, which have nothing to do with the Constitution, but that's not a problem because you see yourself as a visionary, someone who is to bring people together.
    Wait. What? Bring people together? If you seek to unify, to bring people together, why on EARTH would you goad the other side who did not believe in your goals? Wouldn't you seek to encourage, to support, to at least mollify?
    Even though 2/3 of citizens opposed your goals, you stood in front of the cameras and crowed that what you had done was because the "American people wanted it!" 
    Way to turn the knife.
    So you send your minions out to call everybody who opposes you "terrorists." Yeah?? Clyburn said it. Dingell said it.
    When your foes looked desperately for a way to nullify what you had done, you said, " Go for it!" 
    And you smiled when you said it. 
    Yeah, you're a healer. A unifier.

Stupak's fortunes adrift

It is with great pleasure and just a touch of schadenfreude that we point to this column, in which Bart Stupak's prospects for re-election are discussed. May the kiss of Judas be upon him.

“Tough district, but not many people want a sellout for a congressman,” concludes this Washington Republican. “He voted with Pelosi and against his district and he is going to have to defend that vote.” 

“Stupak is now really in a tough spot,” says Fred Wszolek, a veteran GOP consultant who just signed on with Benishek. “He’s in a strongly conservative, pro-life district and his only real connectionwas on cultural issues. But he infuriated the Left on the way to infuriating the Right. It’s hard to see who his base now is. Where he ended up on this issue was a big problem for him, but the way he got there was just incomprehensible. . . . I think Stupak is really toast this time.”

So here Jammie wraps it up: the attacks against Republicans (which are nothing new), Cantor's commentary that politicians need to keep this stuff quiet so copycats aren't encouraged, and the inevitable Koskidz petulant response that their grievance is being stolen right out from under their outraged eyes. Violence, violence, violence

     Hm. The talk seems to be, strangely, everywhere.
     Do these Dems so sophomoric that they do not understand that their lives CANNOT go back to normal after what they've done? And they have to own it. 
    Even today, many reports are emerging that this monstrous health care bill is going to have drastic effects on the economy, not to mention health care.
     It's quite apparent, at this point, that the government wants insurance companies to go out of business. It has been speculated that that will take about 2 years. But as the morning's WSJ indicates, the house of cards is already ready to fall.  Over at NRO, VD Hanson discusses responsiblity and the so-called threats the Nancy pantses are receiving:

This week’s talking point is the sudden danger of new right-wing violence, and the inflammatory push-back against health care. I’m sorry, but all this concern is a day late and a dollar short. The subtext is really one of class — right-wing radio talk-show hosts, Glenn Beck idiots, and crass tea-party yokels are foaming at the mouth and dangerous to progressives. In contrast, write a book in which you muse about killing George Bush, and its Knopf imprint proves it is merely sophisticated literary speculation; do a docudrama about killing George Bush, and it will win a Toronto film prize for its artistic value rather than shock from the liberal community about over-the-top discourse.

Threats, harassment-commentary

     Interesting when Stupak was getting "threats" about his pro-life stance, there was no coverage, yet now when the issue is flip flopped, Stupak releases a harassing voice mail, which to be honest, was weak compared to the horrible stuff Sean Hannity gets ALL THE TIME on his call line.  
     Now everything bad that is happening is being blamed on citizens who do not WANT what these monsters have done to the American people. All around the country, you see Republican and conservative leaders discouraging violence, but, as we covered this before, this is also part of the other side's attempt to discredit those who oppose them. For this reason, it's really hard to discern what is true and what is not.
    No one should be violent though or threaten violence. It'd be great if that same standard would be applied to conservatives, Republicans and anybody who disagrees with lefties.

The changes that send the fixes bill back to the House have to do with the future funding of Pell grants. As one Senate staffer put it to me this morning (or is it still last night if you're of the Senate?): "Democrats tried to keep their spending number down and takecredit for increased future Pell grants. But it was a gimmick — like so much else in the bill."

Republicans in the Senate simply couldn't stop a reconciliation bill with 41 votes yesterday, of course. But they searched for every possible way to try. The real takeaway from last night is that the Senate got to vote on more Republican ideas yesterday "than during the entire debate in December." Republicans consider that as much of an accomplishment as they could have come out of last night with.
